October 1939: Madam Kukk and her girls settle in a new villa that the Foreign Ministry councilor helped buy. He then shows up with high-ranking Russian guests.
Anastassia and Linda both have upsetting experiences with the Russian majors. Two new girls arrive, and a young American guest visits the house.
Mrs. Kukk finds out Carola’s real identity, and the atmosphere at the house is transformed to be ‘more Soviet-friendly’ under Metsla’s directions.
As the Winter War begins, Carola reveals the dark secrets about the house and her past, which explain Metsla’s motives to move the brothel there.
A young lady asks for a job and swears revenge when Mrs. Kukk turns her down. By New Year’s Eve, most of the girls leave for their homes.
The girls start knitting white pullovers, which become popular among the boys going to the war in Finland. Renate rekindles an old love.
Palusalu’s jealous wife arrives at the house. Metsla arranges a meeting between Maria and Henry, but Soviet occupation is close and tragedy strikes.
Metsla plans to form the Club as a working youth refresher school, to save it from the Soviets. The girls argue because of their political views.
ivian is injured during demonstrations and the girls attend a communist election circus, where Metsla meets a former lover, now comrade in power.
The girls are preparing for Red October Day when the postman brings some miserable news. Estonian independence is destroyed.
