Trailer Synopsis

Each week, join Chris Nix, Siddy Holloway and Laura Hilton-Brown from the Museum’s Hidden London team and host Alex Grundon as they explore the secret and mysterious spaces of London’s transport system. In series 1, the team focus on the different sites in the Hidden London tour programme, sharing historical titbits that are revealed on the tours as well as the behind the scenes processes they go through to make the tours such as success. In series 2 and 3, the team turn their hands to a huge number of various transport topics such as moquette, tiling, Johnston type face, posters and much, much more!

Episode 1 - Earl's Court

The team return with an exploration of a busy station with a long history and plenty of hidden gems in both public and secret areas. Once the home of the busiest exhibition centre of London, the station has seen many rebuilds and reuses, revealed through a wealth of photos and posters in our collection.

Episode 2 - Sloane Square
November. 04,2023

In this episode the team go behind the scenes at a station that has been rebuilt many times including after a direct hit from a bomb in the Second World War. Chris and Siddy unlock a river in a cupboard for Alex and Laura enjoys the classic artwork used to promote the station.

Episode 3 - Holland Park
November. 11,2023

The team visit Holland Park, a true survivor of the Central London Railway on the trail of original features lost at neighbouring stations on the Central line. Chris and Alex get the keys to find the secrets and Siddy and Laura guide us through the images, artwork and opera associated with the station.

Episode 4 - Glasgow Subway

Chris and Alex head north to Glasgow to ride the Subway – the third system of it’s type in the world. Laura helps us pick through the differences and similarities of the Subway and the Underground as well as some important culinary decisions.

Episode 5 - Chalk Farm

In this episode, Chris and Alex explore behind the scenes of an unusual Northern line station to discover some rare surviving original features. Meanwhile, Siddy and Laura enjoy a wealth of classic posters promoting travel to Chalk Farm from the Museum collection.

Episode 6 - Thames Tunnel Trek
December. 16,2023

In this episode the team travel to Rotherhithe for a very rare opportunity to walk through the Thames Tunnel, whilst London Overground had stopped trains for scheduled upgrade works. Chris demonstrates how a tunnelling shield was key to the success of building this as the first underwater tunnel in the world in 1843. Siddy uncovers stories about the Brunnel dynasty who masterminded this engineering feat. Laura explains who we turned this into a Hidden London public tour and Alex turns shop keeper for one morning only.

Episode 7 - The Secret Tunnels of Camden Junctions
December. 23,2023

In this bumper Christmas episode, the team are given rare special access to explore the intricate engineering marvel of the Northern line’s Camden Junctions. Built nearly 100 years ago, the junction allows trains to switch between all of the branches of the line and is normally strictly off–limits for access to film. Featuring in-cab footage and a night-time track possession, this is a special tour behind the scenes including a bonus track walk to the nearby disused station, South Kentish Town.

Episode 8 - Old Street

In this epic exploration Laura and Chris get behind the scenes and uncover the secrets of a very old Tube station with its origins in the City & South London Railway and the Great Northern & City line. In the final stages of an upgrade the station is a fantastic mix of modern architecture and forgotten passageways and tiling gems.

Time Machine is an American game show where contestants compete to answer trivia questions about popular culture and recent history to win prizes. The show aired on NBC from January 7 through April 26, 1985 and was hosted by John Davidson. Charlie Tuna was the announcer, with Rich Jeffries as his substitute. Reg Grundy Productions produced the series, and upon its premiere Time Machine was one of three Grundy series airing on NBC. Most of the questions used focused on nostalgia, popular culture, and recent history, and more specifically what year a particular event occurred. Future Card Sharks model Suzanna Williams appeared as one of the prize models in this series.

30 Days is a reality television show on the FX cable network in the United States, created and hosted by Morgan Spurlock. In each episode, Spurlock, or some other person or group of people, spend 30 days immersing themselves in a particular lifestyle with which they are unfamiliar, while discussing related social issues. As in Spurlock's film, Super Size Me, there are a number of rules unique to each situation which must be followed during each such experiment. At least one episode each season has featured Spurlock as the person spending the month in the particular lifestyle. Season one premiered on June 15, 2005, and its respective DVD set was released July 11, 2006. The second season premiered on July 26, 2006. Season 3 of 30 Days premiered on June 3, 2008. FX said on November 6 that it would not be renewing the series for a fourth season, effectively canceling the show. The show has recently been picked up for re-air by Planet Green, though no new episodes have been ordered. In the United Kingdom, the program is broadcast on More4 and Channel 4. In Australia, the program is broadcast on Network Ten and Lifestyle Channel. It currently airs in Canada on Independent Film Channel and Canal Vie. It also airs on FX in Latin America. In Norway it airs on TV 2. In Sweden it airs on TV4 and Kanal 9.
