Trailer Synopsis

Living Lahaina is an American reality television series on MTV. The series, filmed over a three-month period on location in Lahaina, focused on a group of twenty-something surf instructors and their father-figure-boss at the Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy. Living Lahaina also followed cast members throughout travels to Indonesia, California, and Kauai. Living Lahaina premiered on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 10:30 p.m. on MTV and was scheduled to run for eight episodes. However, only 3 episodes were shown on MTV. Following the style of MTV's Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, The Hills and Maui Fever, Living Lahaina was shot in the format of a scripted television show. Cast members did not speak directly to the camera. Instead, the show made use of a Dukes of Hazzard style voice-over narrative periodically throughout each episode, to give background or sum up storylines.

Episode 1 - All About Alex
April. 17,2007

It's the first day of summer in Hawaii and tourist season is in full swing. The surf instructors at the Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy are getting together for their annual kick off meeting, and Kimo, the boss-man of Royal Hawaiian, gives the rundown while the boys joke around. Casey, the not-so-sophisticated, single guy in the bunch, leaves early to snag some beverages, while Alex, the leader of the pack, goes surfing -- leaving the rest of the boys to instruct surfing classes. In the water, Alex has no problems, but on dry land he has one -- Tanya, his girlfriend. Trying to get Tanya off of his mind and out of sight, Alex hits the dirt on an off-roading trip. But, with a car full of rowdy surfer boys, things do not go well. When the car hits a bump the wrong way, it flips over several times. One might think this could bring a crowd down, but not in Lahaina! Uninjured, the boys manage to flip the smashed-in vehicle right-side-up and drive it back into town. After a brief surf session, Casey convinces Alex to go hang out with some new girls, but there is one problem... they crashed their ride! After getting the roof chopped off at the make-shift body shop, the boys meet up with Alex's mutual crush, Liko, and her friends. He watches her surf for a while, and then decides to join her. They guys talk the girls into going back to Lahaina for a barbeque, and then take them back to their pad. When Tanya sees Alex strolling up with Liko and three other girls on his arm, she gets upset, but he gets even more upset! Alex bashes in the company van and disappears. The next morning at the surf academy, Kimo sees his van and finds out that his lead surf instructor is missing and suspected of paddling across a dangerous stretch of ocean. The coast guard is called and they search for Alex by foot, boat, and plane. Kimo is visibly upset and tries to pull it together while the search continues, and luckily it ends pretty soon thereafter when Alex is found paddling in the ocean. After he gets back to land, Tanya tries to talk to him, but he brushes her off. Everyone else tries to give him hell, too, but Alex tells them all that he is a waterman and will be partaking in crazy water adventures from here on out, no matter what anyone tries to do about it.

Episode 2 - Lanai of the Beholder
April. 24,2007

After making the nine-mile trek to Lanai, Alex is considered the man by most locals. But, it's not all about guts and glory. Alex's escapade brings in the attention of Archie Kalepa, Head of Ocean Safety, who pays a visit to the Royal Academy boys. Worried about the guys' lack of safety, Archie warns against pulling paddling stunts after partying. But, despite the seriousness of his pep talk, he pulls Alex aside after the meeting and praises his skills in the water. If Alex is really serious about being a water man, Archie tells him to swing by his office to talk. Word has traveled fast about Alex's trip, and all of the guys want in on the action. They decide to step up to the plate and take a paddling adventure of their own. After picking up some supplies at the shop, the guys head to the water for some training time. Meanwhile, Casey tries to recruit some girls for drinks in Kihei. He's ready to ride to the south side of the island and start some trouble. While he arrives at the bar with his girl, Tamra, he quickly moves on to two new chicks. Although it's shaping up to be a good night, things quickly take a turn when Casey decides to clock a random guy upside the head. The Bouncer quickly grabs his neck in a death grip, and throws him out of the joint. The next morning, Casey and Dreyson head out on a surfing trip. Although Casey's memory from the night before is a little dicey, Dreyson fills his boy in on the drama. Casey admits that he has no idea what happened, and confesses to waking up beside someone other than his girlfriend. Hoping to shake it off, the two approach the water, but Casey and Dreyson both have some business to attend to before they can ride some waves -- puking. Later on, Matt, Dave and Casey have some lunch and talk over the trip ahead. The group trash talks Alex and complain about always being upstaged by the waterman. Looking to make the full nine miles, Casey decides he's going to take it easy until the paddle out to Lanai -- less partying, more training. Kicking it into gear, the guys get into full training mode for the two weeks before their trip. On game day, the six buddies face the moment of truth and start paddling out into the ocean. With an hour left in the trip, Casey is lagging behind and the group takes a much needed rest. But, as the guys start up again, they catch a glimpse of a huge shark beneath their boards. Pumping up their paddling speed, the six try and outrace the shark, but Matt falls short and takes a spill into the water. He may have expected the boys to have his back, but Matt can only see their backs as they leave him behind. Stumble aside, Matt makes it back on his board and the guys escape a near death experience. As they make it to Lanai after a three hour trek, the guys congratulate themselves on walking across water. Once Casey rolls in after lagging behind, the group pitches some tents and starts to barbeque. They've mastered the ocean for one day, so it's time to kick back and relax.

Episode 3 - A Man Alone
May. 01,2007

When Kimo arrives early at his Surf Academy, he back to find a mess. Pulling the guys out of bed, he throws them into a pep talk about representing the Academy in a positive way. The guys laugh off Kimo's attempt to be serious, but when he karate kicks the door and throws a keg, the group realizes that the boss means business. Summer time in Hawaii means big cruise ships and lots of tourists, so Kimo wants to make sure he's got the right guys on the job. But most of his guys are MIA -- Alex is running the field in a soccer game and Bobby and Matt are making cheerleading signs for the event. On the field, the guys from the Academy get a bigger show than they bargained for when a fight breaks out. As the boys get ready for a little vaca, Kimo rallies them up for another meeting. It's a huge weekend for surf instruction, and he wants all hands on deck. But while the boss just laid down the law, the guys plan on ignoring his threats. Instead, the guys head on a three hour road trip for their getaway to Hana, where they throw fruit at each other's jeeps on the ride down. It's all fun and games until a car gets a flat and Kimo realizes his boys are gone. In panic mode, Kimo struggles to keep the academy afloat by teaching lessons on his own. While Kimo has a hard time with lessons, the boys are quick to patch the tire situation and spend time taking in the scenery -- and the girls -- at Hana. At the rental house, the guys take full use of the features, from the hot tub to surrounding jungle vines. Kicking back and relaxing, Casey and Dave get themselves into a slapping turned wrestling fight that ends in a bloody lip. The next morning, Casey wakes up for his post-partying puke. With that done, the caravan headed back to Lahaina in the hopes of avoiding Kimo when they roll back to Lahaina. No such luck... despite their sneaking, he calls them inside for a scolding. A frustrated Kimo tells the boys to get it together and start taking responsibility. Although Sean argues that the younger instructors should have stepped up, Kimo kicks a chair in anger and disappointment. But just when Kimo thinks he's read the boys a riot act, they leave once again to go skate.
