A Town & Country Murder is a British True Crime television series which was broadscast on the "Crime & Investigation Network (UK)" and to date has had around 45 episodes. Summary A Town & Country Murder retells these shocking crimes - from execution murders by complete strangers to crimes of passion by jealous lovers. The programme examines all aspects of the case from the discovery of the body through each twist and turn of the investigation until the perpetrator is finally banged to rights. Not only do we hear from the detectives who cracked the cases and the bereaved families who lost a loved one but also from local people who reveal how the murder has changed their tight knit communities forever.

Episode 1 - Jane Longhurst

Brighton resident Jane Longhurst had a full time job as a teacher, loved music and playing the viola, and was in a stable relationship, so her disappearance in 15 March 2003 was completely out of character. Sussex Police launched a huge investigation to try and find out what happened to Jane and a huge media campaign ensued. But the worst fears of friends and family were realised when the body of a woman was found 5 weeks later. Where had Jane been during those missing weeks and who had killed her? The truth of what happened to Jane would prove darker and more twisted than anyone feared.

Episode 2 - Sophie Lancaster

20 year old Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend were attacked in a park in the Lancashire town of Bacup in August 2007 and left for dead. The victims were immediately rushed to hospital in a critical condition, their life hanging in the balance. The police immediately launched an investigation and set about tracing everyone who was in the park that night but soon encountered frightened young people too afraid to talk. While Sophie’s boyfriend survived this terrible ordeal, Sophie sadly died and the police were now hunting for a murderer. Sophie and her boyfriend were Goths who stood out from the crowd.

Surrey police investigate the case of missing pensioner, 82 year old Bill Williamson. Bill was a retired postman who was enjoying his retirement in the village of Milford when he vanished in 2010. Bill was a widower with no children who had recently moved in with his companion Anne. He was well known in Milford village and had a circle of close friends. Police enquiries suggested that had Bill taken a trip to Ireland but was there more sinister reason behind his disappearance? Investigators were in for a shock when the truth about Bill’s killing eventually came to light and his whereabouts finally revealed.

17 September 2009 and tourists out walking in the Derbyshire countryside made a gruesome discovery, the body of man in the boot of the taxi. The victim was identified as local taxi driver Stuart Ludlam and his murder devastated his family and friends and stunned locals in the nearby village of Cromford.

Can the police finally crack the case of the killing of Roy Tutill, Surrey’s longest unsolved child murder? In 1968, 14 year old school boy Roy Tutill disappeared on his way home from school and his murdered body was found 2 days later in a beech tree plantation in the Surrey countryside. The police investigation centered around a sighting of an Austin Westminster car but detectives just couldn’t make headway with this lead and Roy’s killer remained at large. But a cold case review in the late 1990s offered fresh hope.

The discovery of a badly burned body of a woman by a river in the Suffolk Countryside set the police on the hunt for a twisted killer. But who had murdered 37 year old Dawn Walker and why? Police traced Dawn’s last movements and looked into her life. They discovered a woman with a passion for the outdoors and sport, who spent all her spare time at the gym. Detectives investigated the last confirmed sighting of her on CCTV at the gym and interviewed people who knew her.

The brutal double murder of pensioners Rosemary Windle and Maurece Smith shocked the seaside community of Torquay where they lived. The investigation focussed on those who had spoken to Rosemary and Maurece in the days leading up to their deaths, in the hope that it would produce a lead as to the identity of their killer.

The sinister truth of what happened to him was darker than anyone feared and the key to this mysterious case appeared to lie in the Worcestershire village of Alvechurch. The story of Andre Nunes who was kidnapped and murdered in a case of probable mistaken identity then buried on a property in Alvechurch near Birmingham.
