War In Europe - Drama In Ukraine
November. 16,2021For more than seven years, Ukraine has been locked in an armed conflict with Russia. It is a war in Europe that receives almost no attention in Western Europe. It is the drama of Ukraine, a country whose population is divided between East and West. The two-part documentary analyzes the background of this bloody conflict, which has been going on since 2014 and also reflects the difficult relations between Europe, the USA and Russia.

This first part goes to the roots of the conflict, in 2014, tracing the fall of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych, the accession to power of Petro Poroshenko and the way Moscow stoked divisions to annex Crimea and push Donbass to separatism. Episode also returns to the election, five years later, of Volodymyr Zelensky, faced with the blackmail of Donald Trump, who told him to provide elements incriminating Joe Biden's son, who worked in Ukraine as a consultant, in exchange for maintaining American aid.
In this second part, which lets the young Ukrainian President Zelensky defend his point of view, while showing how little the room for manoeuvre is, director Claire Walding returns to the stakes of the situation, from the election of Joe Biden to the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline - which should connect Russia to Germany without going through Ukraine - to explain why and with what consequences wait-and-and-see continues to prevail.
