July. 31,2013Whatever this is. follows Sam (Hunter Canning) and Ari (Dylan Marron), two production assistants in New York, as well as Sam's girlfriend Lisa (Madeline Wise), a teacher without pay for the summer. Sam and Ari are scraping by working low paying video production gigs focused on a variety of fame seekers. A chance encounter puts Lisa on the road to a possible summer job, but she's not sure where it could lead - or if she's really qualified.

Sam and Ari are pushed to their limits by a grueling 72-hour work "day" on the set of a paranormal detective show. Meanwhile, Lisa receives confusing signals from one of her new employers.
Sam, Ari and crew embark on a corporate video shoot for a big budget client. But what seems like a quick and easy shoot turns into trouble when they meet the venomous CEO, Oliver Powers (guest star Alan Cumming). Meanwhile, Lisa's employers introduce her to their friend, Tori, who has some probing questions for her.
Ari and Sam are stuck miles from civilization while working on a nature show, and the day takes a turn (or several) for the strange. Lisa's employers present her with an opportunity she can't turn down.
Oscar's boss arrives to make everyone's lives worse. Sam, Ari and Lisa are shaken up by a distressing turn of events.
