Farewell Darkness

It also relates how increasingly soldiers are replacing journalists as the source of images.

Warsaw: Year 5703
In the winter of 1943 two young Jews, Alek and Fryda, escape, via sewer tunnels, from the atrocities underway in Warsaw ghetto. Alek, entrusted with undeveloped photos of the horrors within, makes his way to a supposedly safe apartment only to find it occupied by Germans. Another tenant, a pole Stephania, abruptly offers to shelter him in her spacious apartment. She comforts him and they make love that very night. Stefania is uncommonly generous and willing to jeopardize her own safety by hiding a Jew. She even goes to a nearby church and rescues Fryda. But Fryda is ungrateful and proceeds to sabotage the trio's safety in insidious ways.

Otto Frank, the Father of Anne
Director David de Jongh represents the life Otto Frank in his documentary Otto Frank, the father of Anne. The film deals with various facets of Otto Frank’s life: his youth in Germany, including his military service during the First World War, his marriage to Edith Holländer and the birth of their daughters Margot and Anne, their flight to the Netherlands, the time in hiding and the deportation to Auschwitz, his life after the Second World War and his dedication to the diary and the ideals of his daughter Anne, and his second marriage to Fritzi Geiringer. The documentary features many photos and film images, as well as interviews, including new ones, with people who knew Otto Frank. His stepdaughter Eva Schloss is one of the interviewees. The film is produced by Pieter van Huystee Film.

Nook of War
During the Second Sino-Japanese War, Shanwa's family of three lived peacefully in the Taihang Mountains. One day, Japanese soldiers built a artillery tower at the mountain pass, which worries Shanwa's family, their peaceful life was soon disrupted. The Japanese soldiers spotted Shanwa hunting and shot him. The bullet pierced one of his ears and almost killed him. This made the innocent Shanwa feel indignant and thus his need to vent out his anger. Ignoring his wife's dissuasion, he came to the opposite side of the blockhouse at dawn, shouted curses and fired shots in protest. This angered the Japanese soldiers in the artillery tower. They chased him into the mountains several times and finally found his home. The Japanese soldiers brutally killed his wife and child, but he managed to escape with his life. From then on, Shanwa with the help of his father launched a desperate battle against the Japanese soldiers.
