Les rêves ne meurent jamais

Dropstones

As the matriarch of the family, Sonya's mission to raise Luke and Sean as "two good men" proves difficult at times, especially when balancing the demands of a seasonal job with single parenting. Despite the many high-pitched arguments, Sonya takes the time to show affection and love to her boys, always ready to listen to Sean's recommended technology upgrades and Luke's school woes. A coming-of-age story that takes the time to connect to place, identity and tradition.
Mandatory Training
A short, socially critical mosaic shot on 16mm film explores how much the way of thinking has changed in Western society in the past few decades, wondering whether equality and diversity are a matter of course, or whether they are still just meaningless words. Without any planning, the memory coming from Palestine began to flow and merge with the diaries I live here, and the virus began to awaken other viruses, which made me spontaneously, as a Palestinian citizen, besieged in the most beautiful Parisian neighbourhood (Montmartre), busy documenting aspects of diaries and memories in a period of time that changed the face of the scientist.

The Truth
The largest post-war industrial disaster in the Netherlands takes place on 13 May 2000 - fireworks storage S.E. explodes in Enschede. Firework. Many people are injured, a residential area is wiped out and 23 people die. How could such a disaster take place in a tightly organized country like the Netherlands? In De Waarheid, average in-depth interviews, zoom in on the decisions and behavior of those involved around the fireworks disaster in Enschede, in order to reveal the ones that provide insight into how this fragile balance manifests itself. Via the owner of the fireworks storage, an involved firefighter and the licensing municipal officials and the mayor, we reach the leader of the investigation commission, the chief public prosecutor and the minister of the interior who had to deal with the disaster. After all, it is the citizen whose house is destroyed who appeals to common sense.

So Far, yet Too Close
Korean artist Choi Minkyung and Palestinian artist Dina Mimi, who cannot leave their parents' houses, share certain experiences of living abroad and feelings of not fully belonging anywhere in the world. The two artists exchange "video letters" filmed in their family's living room, wearing green screen, discussing their concerns about belonging, alienation, survival, and art. The green screen allows them to erase themselves from their environment and plays a role in projecting the missing outside world in the picture.

Summer Night by the Beach
The artist duo Astrup & Bordorff has visited 1930s Oslo in a performative adaptation of a popular open-air bath with an accompanying cabaret stage by the fjord. Created as a theatrical backdrop in a film studio, Astrup & Bordorff have staged a series of stylised tableaux, which connect the popular with the more marginalised across past, present and future. From an opera performance on a cruise ship to a romantic encounter between two roller skiers in Oslo’s Ekebergskogen forest, the film includes drag artists, professional actors and amateurs performing side by side under a tropical, ominous, orange sky, which is otherwise foreign to Norway – and which is reminiscent of Fassbinder’s queer cinema monument ‘Querelle’. The place actually existed until 1946, when it burned down, and is today the subject of intense gentrification. The work was commissioned by the Munch Museum and is named after one of Munch’s paintings.

Promenade
Diverse days of one provincial embankment. In a remote area of the provincial town, there is an unremarkable old embankment. It was built in Soviet times. At first glance, it may seem that nothing has been happening here for a long time. But observing the same place from the same survey points throughout the year, important changes are discovered, associated not only with natural phenomena, but also with people coming to the embankment. Some of the townspeople appear several times throughout the film. And it becomes clear that these walks along the river are a daily ritual for them.

The Sakharov Case
Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov lived under six rulers of the Soviet state. He met with five of them - Beria (read Stalin), Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Andropov and Gorbachev - personally and hoped that one way or another he would be able to influence their decisions. But he had a real impact on the society of his country. He was born under Lenin and died under Gorbachev, a year and a half before the day when the state collapsed, which he helped strengthen in the first half of his life and fought against in the second. This "turn", as he himself called it, is the most interesting thing in Sakharov's history.
