We Others Will Not
The film “We Others Will Not” emerged as a direct continuation of numerous meetings and conversations with Sergei Bodrov Jr. and Alexei Balabanov. The idea to reflect again on the phenomenon of Sergei Bodrov Jr.’s identity belongs to Evgeniy Nikishov and Valeriy Fedorovich. Together we decided to go on this difficult journey. Close friends and colleagues talk about Sergei: the producer Sergei Selyanov, the designer Nadezhda Vasilyeva, the composer Vyacheslav Butusov, the cinematographer Sergei Astakhov, and also… Sergei Bodrov Jr. and the director Alexei Balabanov, whose films “Brother” and “Brother 2” acquired popular fame at the threshold of the 2000s.

Fort
Fort
Two boyfriends wander beaches near New York City, finding shade under crude shelters they build from driftwood. FORT is a short, experimental process film documenting beach trips taken by co-directors Craig Hunter and Ryan Harman. They build forts with sheets, rubber bands, and materials (like driftwood) scavenged from the shore. These temporary shelters become an oasis for sunbathing, relaxing, and listening to music together. FORT deliberately subverts and disregards both chronology and geography to focus on the very process of constructing a beach fort.

In 2017, playwright Marco Canale staged a play called La velocidad de la luz (“The Speed of Light”) in the Villa 31 slum. There, a group of indigenous elderly ladies recovered their traditions in order to explore their bonds with modern culture, religion, politics and their own memories. Three years later, Canale replicated the idea in Japan and structured this film, together with Juan Fernández Gebauer and Ignacio Ragone, that revolves around that experience.

No Tenemos Miedo
No Tenemos Miedo
October 18, 2019, Santiago, Chile. An increase in the price of public transportation sparks an unexpected riot. Popular anger explodes, rooted in decades of discontent as a result of a savage neoliberal system that has deprived people of the most essential services, in a country that has never returned to true democracy thirty years after the end of Pinochet's dictatorship. Since the first days of the rebellion, we begin to hear about a new urban legend, the Primera Linea, a spontaneous security service that defends protesters. Scenes of protest and urban guerrilla warfare cross the streets and squares in the country. The people crowd the famous Plaza Italia, the zero zone of Chilean demonstrations, now renamed Plaza de la Dignidad (Dignity Square). The repression by the Chilean police is brutal.

La cuarta plantación
La cuarta plantación
During the enhancement of the audiovisual heritage of the Embassy of Mexico in Argentina we found promotional tourist material in different media. I chose some 16mm film titles published 1968–72. At that time, the National Tourism Office commissioned and distributed these short films emphasizing modernity and comfort in contrast to the exotic and almost pristine nature of our tourist destinations. This new wave of mass tourism to underdeveloped countries, which would become one of the main sources of income for Mexico and the Caribbean, was what the Cuban historian Manuel Moreno Fraginals called “the fourth plantation,” alluding to economic practices of monoculture and neocolonialism. This is a compilation of the most interesting moments to review the speeches of that time.
