Collection Lockdown by Swiss Filmmakers
Facing the massive interruption the world went through during the lockdown months, the artistic community did a lot of thinking, about solitude, emptiness, fear of illness and implicitly of the future, and the relationship with domestic space and technology. A group of Swiss film directors turned these themes into the shorts that became the national project known as Collection Lockdown by Swiss Filmmakers. The Locarno Film Festival is showing nine of these films on the big screen, showcasing the work of filmmakers who continued creating cinema to share their experience from during those days.

Collapse is a short documentary examining the crisis shocked into motion by the COVID-19 pandemic as the final breakdown of capitalist society. The film looks at a number of topics, including great power competition, the lockdown, the collapse of social dependence, unemployment and automation to present an understanding of our historical moment as, simply, "the beginning of an end". This film is the first of three planned on the present crisis. The next will look at the murder of George Floyd and the processes it has set in motion

Epitaph
This Belarussian necropolis is a place where some people can meet with dead family members and spend time on contemplation. Few others try to look for the traces of the past there, some come just for a walk and yet another group engages into family feasting. Next to strollers and contemplators, there sometimes come cats creeping among the tombs and squirrels looking out from trees. Immersed in deadly silence, the cemetery comes to life from time to time, while the faces from tomb photographs, frozen in time, look at all this in silence.

Year after year, Dr. Chen dedicated himself to this charitable work... This movie attempts to show the medical conditions in remote rural areas in China as objectively as it can. Dr. Chen, as a thread, links togther the real lives of the locals presented by a group portrait of them. Also, It reveals that the traditional doctor-patient relationship has survived the aggressive modern civilization in this area, so has the culture of helpfulness common to an "aquaintance society".

Still Here, Still Walking is a diary film about the contradictions that the filmmaker continues to face as an activist struggling between mental health issues and political work. It goes from her experience as a naive art student from a school founded by the Marcoses to her participation in the mass movement, which eventually overlaps with conflicts with her family, her studies, her organizations, and herself, ending in a wavering “revolutionary optimism”. While the work is mostly self-reflections, it is an attempt to view these subjective emotional experiences through impersonal and political lens. It delves not just into the psyche of the self, but also of the depressed and deprived masses who, despite it all, continue to seek out an alternative to this rotten system and build a better life grounded in communal support.
