No Boundaries
No Boundaries
In the serene embrace of sacred nature, trivial thoughts dissolve away. A profound silence engulfs the mind, stifling even the breath. It is the rediscovery of a lost emotion—'awe,' flowing like a stream. A mother, mourning the loss of her only son, embarks on a daily ritual of mountain hikes. In the ascent, she seeks solace amidst the sacred silence that nature provides. For her, the journey becomes a poignant exploration of the profound and the mundane. A 70-year-old haenyeo (traditional female diver), wise from a life intertwined with the sea, asserts that materiality is both our everyday reality and our path to paradise. Their lives, like the ebb and flow of water, find meaning in the continuous stream. Following the currents, one discovers mountains beneath the sea, whereas within the mountains, the sea continues to flow. Ultimately, the boundaries of the world are revealed to be nonexistent, echoing the profound interconnectedness of all things.

Nubia Way
Nubia Way
Nubia Way was built in the 1990s by Fusions Jameen, London's first black housing co-operative in Downham, Lewisham. Constructed using the principles of Walter Segal, self-builders were offered long-term discounted rents in return for building the homes. Through interviews with the original self-builders, historians, architects and economists, this new documentary from the Architecture Foundation celebrates the legacy of Nubia Way and examines self-building as an act of resistance against the housing discrimination faced by Black British Communities.

Blue Folder
The documentary is dedicated to the Strugatsky brothers, iconic Soviet writers who are still incredibly popular and relevant in Russia. There were queues for Strugatsky's books in the USSR, magazines with their stories were resold on the black market. The brothers were not dissidents: they began their writing career as convinced communists; the world of the future they described is the world of a communist utopia. It is all the more surprising that their entire creative biography is a fierce struggle against censorship. Which they lost.

Galya Kopeikina is a lonely old woman who lives in tropical Sochi. However, on the screen we don’t see the sea or palm trees, but only the cramped space of a Soviet two-room apartment. The director of the film is the great-granddaughter of Galya Kopeikina, who was sent by relatives to negotiate with her great-grandmother. The aim is to convince her to move with one of the relatives in another city. Sounds simple, but it's actually a mission impossible. However, the camera is an outside observer that allows you to look at the situation from a different angle. To see a helpless lonely person instead of an eternally dissatisfied and absurd pensioner. To understand and to love her again.

On Our Doorstep
On Our Doorstep
On Our Doorstep delves deep into an aspect of the refugee crisis that rarely reached the press. With NGOs being blocked by red tape and the absence of any positive action by French or British authorities, the film is a behind-the-scenes look at the unprecedented grassroots movement that rose to aid the refugees in Calais, and the community that sprang up there, before it was forcefully demolished. This is the story of what happens when young and inexperienced citizens are forced to devise systems and structures to support 10,000 refugees; and are left unguided to face the moral and emotional conflicts, blurred lines and frequent grey areas of giving aid to vulnerable people. People who do not want to be there. It questions whether the aims of the volunteers were met, and whether these aims ultimately served the refugees' needs.

Behind the Lines
Behind the Lines
Amany Al-Ali stands out as one of Syria's few female cartoonists, residing in her father's home in Idlib, the last city unconquered by Assad's forces. Like her remaining neighbours she's submitted to relentless Russian airstrikes and caught between advancing troops and extremist groups. Despite acclaim for her art, she faces threats, condemnation, and degradation, causing her to contemplate leaving. Ironically, her artwork has graced galleries in France and Italy but never received exposure within Syria's borders. The film captures her endeavor to organize her inaugural exhibition in Idlib. This experience compels her to confront the harsh realities of a city defined by bombings and male interference. While organizing drawing lessons for women and girls, comforting her young niece, and sharing her story with the documentary crew, Amany's outlook on the future gradually erodes.
