Seven Songs for Malcolm X
The Black Audio Film Collective’s seventh film envisioned the death and life of the African American revolutionary as a seven part study in iconography as narrated by novelist Toni Cade Bambara and actor Giancarlo Espesito. The stylized tableaux vivants that memorialise Malcolm’s life referenced the early 20th century funeral photography of James Van der Zee’s The Harlem Book of the Dead and the elemental static cinematography of Sergei Paradjanov’s The Colour of Pomegranates.
The Violinmaker
A stringed instrument workshop in Gyeongju. Dong-joon is a man who has dedicated his entire life to the violin. He has suffered from hearing loss since the age of one, and without a hearing aid he cannot even hear the sound of an airplane passing overhead. Making a sound-sensitive stringed instrument requires extraordinary effort, and Dong-joon's family is worried and concerned about his decision to pursue a career as a musical instrument maker. Meanwhile, Dong-joon prepares to enter an international violin-making competition in Mittenwald, Germany to prove his skills.

This documentary features exclusive interview's with all four of the original members of the Sex Pistols as they take you on a track by track look at the making of the album. Featuring Steve Jones and Glen Matlock demonstrating selected riffs and licks off the album and explaining the development of the song writing. Candid interviews with Malcolm McLaren, Chris Thomas and Bill Price set the record straight about the recording session. The movie itself premiered in NYC on 12/19/1980. BLACK AND BLUE made the rounds on the 'Midnight Movie' circuit during the early 80's. It was released on VHS in Jan. 1981 and went out of print within a short time. It could only be found for many years as a Japanese import or bootleg.
