Their Own Life
The LGBTQ+ community has long struggled with the “scourge” of suicide. Data from the Dutch crisis hotline - 113 Suicide prevention - show that nearly half of all LGBTQ+ adults in the Netherlands have entertained suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives, a figure five times higher than that for the country’s adult population in general. The number of people who have actually attempted suicide is four times higher than average. For transgender people,the figures are even more shocking. Yet within the rainbow community as a whole, the topic of suicide still seems to be taboo.The filmmakers want to break down this taboo. For the past two years, they have been following three individuals as each of them went through a jet-black period. Will they manage to get their lives back on track? Can they set an example for others in mental distress?
Record of Life: Those Who Fought in the Okawa Tsunami Trial
On March 11, 2011, Okawa Elementary School in Ishinomaki City was engulfed by a tsunami, and 74 children, or 70% of the school's children, were killed. 51 minutes elapsed between the earthquake and when the tsunami reached the school. The school was informed of the tsunami and a school bus was on standby, but students did not evacuate. Okawa Elementary was the only school that suffered a large number of casualties in this earthquake. This documentary follows the lawsuit that followed the disaster, where the parents sought the truth behind the tragedy.

The film is dedicated to the fate of children evacuated from besieged Leningrad. Orphanages were created at the expense of collective farms, in which hundreds of orphaned children were brought up. Not a single film has been made about how children lived in these institutions. There are fewer and fewer eyewitnesses of those events, only from them you can learn the truth.
Golden City
In the early 70s of the twentieth century, a gramophone record called "Lute music of the XV-XVII centuries" arrived in music stores. She was a truly stunning success and was in almost every Soviet family. The first number on it was the work "Canzone" by the composer Francesco da Milano (1497-1543). To the tune of the "Canzone", the poet Henri Volokhonsky composed the poem "Over the Blue Sky", using biblical images from the Old Testament Book of the prophet Ezekiel. The song "Under the Blue Sky" became the most famous ballad, and the aria "Ave Maria" became a worldwide opera hit. And suddenly, twenty years after the release of the record, it turned out that the withered Italian composers on the cover do not have such works, and their author is the Hero of our film – self-taught Vladimir Vavilov. Hassan recalls the first night that Jellaz became his place of shelter. As Hassan prepares for his own life after death, he shares with us his notes on mercy, memory, and love.

Soyuz-Apollo. The Force of Attraction
The documentary "Soyuz-Apollo. The Force of Gravity" is dedicated to the history of the legendary "handshake in space" – the docking in near-Earth orbit of the Soviet and American spacecraft Soyuz-19 and Apollo in 1975. The event took place at the height of the Cold War between the USSR and the USA. The unique international project was an important step of the two nuclear powers towards each other, and the friendly handshake of the crew captains Alexei Leonov and Thomas Stafford in space inspired hope for a warming of the political climate on Earth. The film uses documentary newsreel footage and memoirs of participants in those historical events: pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR and the Russian Federation, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Aviation Major General Alexei Arkhipovich Leonov and Aviation Lieutenant General, test pilot, NASA astronaut Thomas Patten Stafford.

Filmmaker Bart Melief followed the development of the business park in the Lutkemeerpolder and the protest against it for three years. With his film, he wants to record this historical event and erect a monument to a small polder in a big city.

Dasha's life is the lights of spotlights and the roar of guitars, a chanting audience and an endless holiday. And also – a lot of domestic and family problems. And also – the upbringing of two little daughters. The eldest of them has autism. Every day is an attempt to solve unsolvable issues. The main one is – is it possible to be a cool rocker and a cool mother at the same time?

These lines from a Soviet song can serve as an epigraph to the film "The White Way". Despite the cold and hunger, literally dying at work, the doctors of besieged Leningrad continued to save the lives of soldiers and citizens to the last, to make scientific discoveries on a global scale. This is a conversation about the victory of the human over the animal, vocation over circumstances. Honest eyewitness accounts, unique chronicle shots of hospitals in the besieged city, a dialogue between the past of Leningrad and modern St. Petersburg.
Portrait of the Artist on a Historical Background
The story presented to the viewer is both the story of Lenfilm, the most difficult period of his life, and the story of the Lenfilm artist Viktor Ivanov, who preserved human dignity and the history of our country in difficult conditions. The time in which Victor lived and worked was not easy: perestroika with its illusions and disappointments. One of the foundations of the film is Vitya's latest work, the cartoon "Sirin", which became his kind of message, a story about his time. The film also features numerous chronicle materials and interviews with famous St. Petersburg cinematographers.
Equated to Bread
The film, based on the script of the St. Petersburg writer Anatoly Agrafenin, is dedicated to the newspaper journalists of the besieged Leningrad. Overcoming incredible difficulties and trials, journalists and printers managed to ensure the production of newspapers in the besieged city, which were published daily, as before the war. Newspapers brought people information about the situation on the fronts, about how the fighting Leningrad lives, instilled confidence in the imminent victory over the enemy. It is no coincidence that the newspaper word in those days was equated with bread.
Justis
An interview with the father of Nikos Sampanis, who was fatally shot during a police pursuit. The film deals with the pain of loss and puts in the spotlight the consequences of prejudices and racism towards a vulnerable social group. This project was created during the Video & Storytelling LAb, designed & implemented by Karpos, Center for Education and Intercultural Communication with the support of UNHCR Greece.
