My grandmother, born in 1902, had ten children in an agricultural, devout and patriarchal world. My mother did not want children. She wanted to free herself from domestic contingencies. She became a civil servant and a city dweller. All my life, I had to deal with this aversion that she transmitted to me. Having chosen to live in the countryside, I find myself in my turn monopolized by my home. It is from my kitchen and my computer screen that I reconstruct our women's journeys under the influence of household and family obligations. My grandmother carried buckets of water with a yoke every day. Today my friends are coming back to washable diapers. I summon people, places and archives to question my intimate history by dialoguing with Michelle Perrot, historian of women's emancipation.

From Inside of Here
From Inside of Here is a feature-length non-fiction film based in research in the Mexican Wolf Recovery Area in western New Mexico. The audience is invited to understand the filmmaker as a subject co-produced by their location, as well as consider the ways the land is co-produced by those on it. The place itself is a character in the film, as are the filmmaker's methods. The film is composed of multiple media: 16mm film, HD video, infrared stills, inter-titles, and sound recordings. The result is a feminist ethnographic landscape film that communicates both the majesty of 1800s landscape photography and the violence of a settler colonial gaze that is its context.

"Hudaks aren't people" is a line from a traditional Transcarpathian song. Thus, hudaks, the village musicians who play at weddings, have long been separated from the rest of the people. It works the same way at a wedding: they have a separate table from the guests, separate transportation, and special treatment. They are most often self-taught musicians who inherited their profession from their father or grandfather. They are usually the "stars" in the village, people talk about them, because life around them tends to be in full swing, even when they seem to be surrounded by ordinary rural life: milking a cow, feeding a goat, herding sheep, slaughtering pigs for Christmas, mowing hay, or going to the Czech Republic for a "stroiky".

They met 30 years ago, and have been making documentaries and feature films together ever since, inspired by the lives and legends of the Arctic peoples of Siberia, Canada and Scandinavia. Two beings united to create a cinema of resistance, inspired by the sacred breath of myths and the relationship that the cultures of the Far North once had with Mother Earth.
