PosSession of the Spirit
PosSession of the Spirit
Filmmaker Herbert Alfonso and musician Glenn de Randamie travel to Ghana to do some research on polyrhythm and the West-African spirituality. However, their trip to The Motherland makes them realize that home is more than the place where they grew up. Years later, they recollect their faded memories and try to find the right words to describe their intense experience. What exactly made them feel at home and lost at the same time? What does being home actually mean for a black individual from Europe while visiting Africa? Only abstractions seem to persevere as this colourful and musically-charged collage serves to show how a life-changing experience can leave us with nothing but fragments of a truth that has yet to be discovered.

Each fled persecution in Iran, searching for safety, freedom and a brighter future, only to be treated callously by the Australia government. Forming a close friendship while detained, they used music and art as a form of peaceful resistance to promote humanity and tirelessly advocate on behalf of all those who remained held. Groundswell
Groundswell
In the 1990s, in the city of Mar del Plata, about thirty women disappeared and were murdered, most of them sex workers. A serial killer that was given the name of “El Loco de la Ruta” was blamed for these crimes. Every investigation that had to do with these crimes was half-hearted and defective; the stigmatization of the victims was much more intense than any aim at justice. In a decade pierced by impunity and social discontent, the women, most of them still unorganized, were the only ones to raise their voices and take the cold city streets reclaiming justice.

JFK: The Three Miles
JFK: The Three Miles
A new, Irish documentary directed by Galway native Pamela Finn.In June 1963, President John F. Kennedy made a visit which would change America and the rest of the world’s perception of Ireland forever. Kennedy referred to his visit to Ireland as “the best four days of his life”. One of those days, June 29th, was spent in Galway, known for its long winding promenade, beautiful beaches and traditional Gaeltacht culture of music, dancing and Irish language. Told through the eyes of residents who were present on the day, the film recalls the euphoric excitement felt within the local community. Nobody in Galway had ever experienced such privilege before, nor had they felt such an atmosphere, and they’d certainly never met someone as famous as the President of the United States.
