Harry Connick, Jr.: Harry For The Holidays
Harry Connick, Jr.: Harry For The Holidays
Harry for the Holidays" is both a traditional and musically adventurous Christmas television special, shot in high definition and originally broadcast on NBC in 2003. The unusual yet beautiful setting is the historic interior of the Bowery Savings Building/Cipriani 42nd Street; one can see an occasional car flash by through windows behind Harry Connick Jr. and his Big Band. Connick's program includes holiday standards but his arrangements are novel, cutting against the melodiousness of the likes of "Silver Bells" or "Frosty the Snowman" with edgy strings, sizzling brass, and complex rhythms. "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" and "The Happy Elf" swing like nobody's business, while "Silent Night" shifts from blues to ballad to gospel in a collaboration between Connick, Marc Anthony, and Kim Burrell. Whoopi Goldberg and Nathan Lane turn up for some cute sketches, and there's a bonus: Connick and Burrell doing the lovely "I Pray on Christmas," not seen in the NBC broadcast.

1982: La Decisión del Presidente
1982: La Decisión del Presidente
The documentary depicts the decay of one of Mexico's most prosperous macroeconomic situations (the era called "The Mexican Miracle") and the government's responsibility on this matter after increasing world interest rates, decreasing oil prices, rising inflation, a deteriorating balance of payments and a chronically overvalued national currency (Mexican peso), that spurred massive capital flight and a lack of international reserves. These events culminated in three devaluations of the peso in 1982 and the famous nationalization of Mexico's private banking system under the presidency of José López Portillo. -Edgar Cochran-

Legends: The Five Greatest Fighters from Pride FC (Fedor Emelianenko)
Legends: The Five Greatest Fighters from Pride FC (Fedor Emelianenko)
Fedor's reign of dominance during his time in Pride was a sight to behold. The Pride heavyweight champion had a trademark style of swinging for the fences with total distain for his opponent without showing a hint of emotion. 'The Last Emperor' had compiled a record of 27-1(1) by the time Pride went under, and many had Fedor at the top of their pound for pound list, and for good reason. Fedor's list of Pride opponents reads like a who's who of MMA. During his four years in Pride FC Fedor faced and defeated Semmy Schilt, Heath Herring, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Mark Coleman, Cro Cop, Mark Hunt and Kevin Randleman to name a few. My all time favorite Fedor moment was when he was suplexed by Randleman on to his head and still won the match by submission.

On Tender Hooks
On Tender Hooks
The first feature film from accomplished short filmmaker Kate Shenton, On Tender Hooks is a documentary film delving into the world of human suspension and the people involved. Kate spends a year following a different people and group of suspenders. Every Sunday they pierce themselves with hooks and hang in mid-air from rigs in a display that challenges the perceptions and squeamishness of even the most hardened. The film is a fly on the wall documentary showing how the ordinary human body can achieve extraordinary things. Beginning with groups in London, and then following events in Rico, Croatia and Oslo, Norway, the film depicts a wide variety of experience and opinions, and delves thoughtfully into a deeply misunderstood practice On Tender Hooks was a self-funded project filmed and edited by director Kate Shenton. Completed in 2012 it is an example of independent film-making at its purest.
