The Sniper
In the autumn of 1942, a secret convoy was ambushed by the Japanese army in the field. At that moment, Zuo Yingjie and Ling Feng, who composed the hunter squad of the Eighth Route Army, were hiding in the nearby mountain. They sniped at the Japanese soldiers killing them all, and saved the only survivor of the convoy and brought him to their base. They discovered that the survivor’s name is Qin Weizhou, an expert in deciphering coded telegrams who works in the Bureau of Investigation and Statistics of the Military Council for the Kuomintang government. In the past the man did huge damage to the underground organization of the communist party, was now shouldering the responsibility of deciphering the coded telegrams of the Japanese army. Despite this, the organization decided Zuo Yingjie to lead an elite squad to get through the battlefield and escort him to a safe place. At the same time, Japanese snipers and a large force of the Japanese army received message to stop them.

On the Mountain of Tai Hang
On the Mountain of Tai Hang tells the story of the Sino-Japanese war and the commander-in-chief, Zhu De, leading the main force of the Eighth Route Army to the battlefront against the Japanese invaders. Presented are several important campaigns, from September 1937 to May 1940, including the Pingxingguan victory, the surprise attack on Yangmingbao, Xinkou campaign and Huangtuling campaign, where Abuguixiu, lieutenant general of the Japanese army, was shot down. The film also reflects the close relationship between the Eighth Route Army and the people.

The Warriors
The Warriors was directed by Ning Haiqiang (whose oeuvre includes 2015’s The Hundred Regiments Offensive), is set in 1935 and follows a regiment of the People’s Liberation Army – then known simply as the Red Army – led by Commander Huang Kaixiang (Ethan Li) and including Sergeant Yang Zhengwei (Nie Yuan), as it races towards a key bridge that has to be taken in order to stop the Kuomintang troups’ progress in the region.
