Universe of Sound - The Planets - Philharmonia Orchestra
Universe of Sound has won the 2013 Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Audiences and Engagement. The award recognizes an outstanding initiative by an organisation or individual to engage new and existing audiences with classical music in the UK in 2012. The RPS commented "The Philharmonia cements its position as a World leader in the use of digital media" and that the project "provided a thrilling interactive experience for all ages"

Redemption Trail

Edwardian Insects on Film
In 1908, amateur naturalist and pioneering filmmaker Percy Smith stunned early cinema goers with his footage of the juggling fly. Hailed as the father of Natural History film, Smith was a hugely influential visual pioneer, inventing many techniques that are still used today. Being both a genius and an eccentric, we follow his life from his earliest films, to the collapse of his house from his mould experiment to his ultimate suicide. We also meet Natural History icon Sir David Attenborough, who was so amazed by Smith’s films in the 1930s that they inspired him to get into natural history.

Symptoms of influenza mean the last days in the life of the Austrian painter Egon Schiele (1890-1918) seem to be played out beyond the confines of a set time and space. His stylised portraits come to live and edge him further towards death. Choreographer Stuart has transformed his images into a transparent movement language that by turns follows and ignores the music by Alexander von Zemlinsky. The rawly expressive and confrontational imagery reflects the powerful effect of Schiele’s drawings and paintings.

Jew-Man Business
Jew-Man Business, besides having a seminally anti-semitic title, is a documentary about the struggle faced in Freetown, Sierra Leone. This documentary sets out to show us how life is on the streets of Freetown, following three young men, of which one is living on the street (Bone Thug), another who is trying to leave the street life of crime behind him (Junior), and finally, Ice T, a former rebel soldier. Jew-Man Business portrays a real hardship as it follows these three men through their daily routine.

The film is a Slovak version of The Thin Blue Line, recounting the unsolved disappearance and murder of a young woman that happened thirty years ago. It was a case that was paraded in the communist media at the end of which seven individuals were found guilty of this heinous crime. They are the same individuals who at present proclaim their innocence.

The film features extensive unseen footage, as well as old and new interviews with many of the key players of the time including those who admitted to the killing of Prime Minister Maurice Bishop.
