Hot Sugar's Cold World

Saynatakuna: Masks
An ethnographic film that tells the story of the mask makers and dancers during the festival of the Virgen del Carmen in Paukartambo, Cuzco. The dancers reinterpret their history and socio-political forces that drive them to perform their rituals of magic and resistance. The 18 dance troupes reenact and satirize the different ethnic groups that passed through Paukartambo since the beginning of time. They connect and tell a story of the past, the present, and the future wearing hand-made colorful masks and intricate beaded costumes.
Imaginary Feasts
In Nazi concentration camps, The Gulag and Japanese war camps, deportees wrote cooking recipes. Hundreds of those recipes were copied in small notebooks by starving human beings of all origins who took huge risks to write and keep them. Telling about these objects of survival, the film explores a phenomenon of incredible Resistance. Until now, no study or publication had ever been made on them.

Pavel Zuev has to start his life over from darkness after he looses his sight. Her name sounds symbolic – Nadezhda (translates as 'hope' into English) and she works at the local hospital. Nadezhda will help Zuev find his strength and a new sense of existing. But most of us didn’t really want to see the people whose culture, anguish, and aspirations were reflected on our screens. “Arab Movie” brings us the stars and the songs, the convoluted plots, and that fleeting moment when we shared the same cultural heroes as everyone else in the Middle East. But this film about the richness and intensity of Egyptian cinema also raises some disturbing questions.

On October 24th, a concert named "Yellow River Ballad—Wild Children Band 20th Anniversary Concert," organized by Shu Music, will be held at the Workers' Gymnasium in Beijing. It will feature an extravagant lineup of folk music's golden generation, including Wan Xiaoli, Xiaohe, Zhou Yunpeng, Wu Tun, Hu Defu, and the "King of Chinese Rock Stage," Xie Tianxiao, taking turns to witness and participate in this extraordinary musical event. In addition to Beijing, the Wild Children Band's 20th-anniversary concert will also take place on a grand stage in Shanghai. However, the significance of the Wild Children band within the folk music community over the past twenty years far exceeds the significance of this performance.

Triokala: The Three Gifts of Nature
Caltabellotta is a small town in the far south of Sicily.
