The Lumineers - Live on KEXP
The Lumineers - Live on KEXP
This summer, folk rockers The Lumineers played a special show at Barboza in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood as part of KEXP’s VIP Club concert series. The band has gained major momentum in the current thirst for rootsy, soul-stirring music, and this year they’re up for two Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Americana Album for their self titled debut released by Dualtone Records in Nashville. The Lumineers have the unbeatable combination of excellent songwriting and a rousing live show, complete with an integrity and love at the heart of the band which can be traced back to the loss of drummer Jeremiah Fraites’ brother, also close friend of singer/guitarist Wesley Schultz, just before the group’s inception eight years ago.

Doubt on Loan
Doubt on Loan
A dysfunctional group of misfits and dropouts try to prove the relevance of their own lives as librarians endorsing the relevance of libraries, ironically at a time when they are being further pushed into the abyss in our hyper-modern technology based world. In all Doubt on Loan focuses on the dysfunctional librarians of Shawcross Library and Interactive centre, as they navigate their way through running a failing library in our increasingly hyper-modern technology based world, relationships and their pasts. Making matters worse their warped views, and precarious judgments often lead them to trouble, creating a myriad of uncomfortable situations that usually only get worse before they get better (which doesn't often happen).

Crazy Camel
Crazy Camel
‘Many people have a preconception about butoh — that it is performed by dancers whose bodies are painted white. So when we debuted our current program, ‘Crazy Camel,’ in France, and we came on stage covered in gold-colored powder, the fans and experts there thought we were pioneering a new style,” 72-year-old butoh master Akaji Maro says in a recent email interview. “In fact, this gold-powdered showy performance style has existed as a cabaret-show flip side of orthodox butoh since not long after the genre was started in 1959. It was developed by two trailblazers — Tatsumi Hijikata (1928-86) and Kazuo Ohno (1906-2010).”

The Exquisite Corpse Project
In this first-of-its-kind crossover comedy, director Ben Popik brings together five comedy writers, and surprises them with a challenge: to each write fifteen pages of a movie, having read only the previous five pages of the script. They agree with one stipulation: If they write the movie, he has to make it. It's a comedy, a love story, a psycho-sexual thriller, and a supernatural adventure all in one. Meanwhile, documentary footage of the writing process provides an inside look into the often-hilarious creative process, as well as the group dynamics that make collaboration between friends difficult.

Strange Fruit - The Beatles' Apple Records
Strange Fruit - The Beatles' Apple Records
"...in 1968, under a haze of publicity, 'The Beatles' opened their collective door to musicians, writers, artists, film-makers, inventors, designers, freaks and opportunist sharks. But despite a hefty investment, little of substance was forthcoming, except for "Apple Records". "This is the story of a record label which came to exist under extraordinary circumstances, produced extraordinary records and was operated under extraordinary guidelines..." "Strange Fruit" offers new interviews with Tony Bramwell, members of 'Badfinger', 'The Iveys', 'Elephant's Memory', Jackie Lomax, 'Brute Force' and David Peel, plus commentator Chris Ingham, author, journalist Mark Paytress and Apple biographer Stefan Granados. The film also includes Apple music, archive footage of Apple artists, interviews from the vaults, rare images and location films.
